Mexico City GP 2025: A Turning Point in the Title Race

The weekend of 27–29 October 2025 proved to be a watershed moment in the season. At the 2025 Mexico City Grand Prix held at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez, Lando Norris (McLaren) converted pole into victory with authority, repositioning his championship challenge.

Victory and Leadership Change

Norris started from pole, navigated early chaos and controlled the race. Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) came in second, while Max Verstappen (Red Bull Racing) finished third despite a difficult weekend. Norris now leads the Drivers’ Championship for the first time since April.

Challenges for Rivals

Oscar Piastri (McLaren) salvaged a fifth place after struggling. Alpine endured another low point, both drivers finishing uncompetitive. Meanwhile, Carlos Sainz faced too many issues to score.

Strategy & Analysis

McLaren’s superiority exposed a surprising weakness in Red Bull’s car at altitude.  Key factors: start execution, tyre strategy and coping with altitude. A highlighted topic: the consistency of stewarding penalties, particularly in relation to Lewis Hamilton.

Summary

The 27–29 October 2025 weekend represents a major shift in the F1 title battle. McLaren is strong, Norris is back on top, and the chase is more intense than ever.
