Brazilian Grand Prix: Gabriel Bortoleto Unharmed After Dramatic Crash at Interlagos
A shocking final-lap incident
Brazilian driver Gabriel Bortoleto suffered a frightening accident during the Brazilian GP Sprint Race at Interlagos. Battling with Alex Albon for 10th place, his Sauber lost control before Turn 1, slammed into the pit wall, and came to rest near Turn 2. The crash broke the steering column and heavily damaged the car.
Good news for the young driver
After quick medical checks by the FIA, Bortoleto was declared fit to take part in qualifying. Former McLaren boss Andrea Stella told Sky F1: “It’s a great relief to know Gabriel is okay. We’ve always maintained a strong bond since his time at the McLaren Academy.”
Sauber’s race against time
The Sauber team faced a huge challenge rebuilding the car overnight. Despite severe damage, mechanics managed to prepare it for Sunday’s qualifying. Stake F1 Team confirmed: “After precautionary medical checks, we can confirm Gabriel is fine. We thank the FIA, F1, marshals, and medical staff for their excellent care.”
A lesson in resilience
This crash highlights the remarkable safety improvements in Formula 1 and Bortoleto’s determination to perform at home in the Brazilian Grand Prix.
